Amazon Prime Instant Video Jan. 28 said it has secured subscription streaming rights to the first season (13 episodes) of NBC drama, “Hannibal,” starring Hugh Dancy, Mads Mikkelsen and Laurence Fishburne, among others.

“Hannibal” is based on characters from the book “Red Dragon,” and follows the story of the young Hannibal Lecter, a psychiatrist and criminal profiler. The series is created by Bryan Fuller, who’s developed series “Pushing Daisies” and “Dead Like Me.”

Season 1 of “Hannibal” was released on disc Sept. 24, and is available on Blu-ray Disc (with Digital HD) on Amazon for $27.50.

“Hannibal” is also the theme to three movies, the first, The Silence of the Lambs (1991), which won five Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Actor (Anthony Hopkins), Best Actress (Jodie Foster) and Best Director (Jonathan Demme).

The second season of “Hannibal” debuts Feb. 28 on NBC.
